Dr Mark Hamer is co-lead of the UCL Physcial Activity Research Group (PARG). He is an accredited sport and exercise scientist who completed his PhD in exercise physiology in 2002 and is mainly interested in the effects of physical activity and sedentary behaviour on population health, especially in relation to heart disease, healthy ageing, and mental wellbeing. One key aspect of his work is in understanding factors that influence physical activity behaviour and how to effectively promote physical activity in the general population. He has authored over 180 scientific papers on physical activity, lifestyle factors and health, and is supported by the National Prevention Research Initiative, the British Heart Foundation, and a BUPA Foundation award. Dr Hamer is currently Principal Investigator on the Camden Active Spaces project, which is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.
