Professional Biography

Professor Mathew Wilson is Head of Sport and Exercise Medicine for the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH) and is an Honorary Professor in the Department of Targeted Intervention within the Division of Surgery & Interventional Sciences at UCL.

Prior to this, he was Executive Director of Research and Scientific Support at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, Qatar. He was an IOC Scientific and Medical Expert Committee member and was Director of the Aspetar IOC Injury and Illness Prevention Research Centre.

Professor Wilson is currently Senior Associate Editor for the British Journal of Sports Medicine and is recognised as an international expert in sports cardiology.

Professor Wilson is an active clinician and researcher. His research is focused on protecting and enhancing athlete health, reducing illness and injury, and performance optimisation. Under his guidance, Aspetar published over 1,000 publications indexed on PubMed with more than 13,500 citations.
