Dr Bruce Paton

Professional Biography

Dr Bruce Paton is a Consultant physiotherapist with a specialisation in lower limb musculoskeletal disorders, trauma, orthopaedics and rheumatology.. He is currently working in the Sports Medicine service at the ISEH and is responsible for Lower limb rehabilitation pathways for University College London Hospitals.

He received his Bach Appl Science in Physiotherapy from University of Sydney in 1992, with early Physiotherapy work in Sydney and London teaching hospitals.

Currently he works as an AHP Consultant Physiotherapist in the orthopaedics, fracture and sports clinics at University College London Hospitals (UCLH). He has worked in an extended scope of practice role since 2003, and is responsible for rehab pathways for lower limb conditions in the hospital.

He works with elite level sport in football, athletics, marathon and worked at both the Olympic games in London 2012 and commonwealth games in Glasgow 2014. He regularly consults to elite level sport on athlete rehabilitation and return to sport.

He obtained a PhD in 2017 from Kings College London (Centre for Human and Aerospace physiological sciences), with focus on ACLR and speeding recovery in the early period postoperatively.

His academic roles include founding faculty of the Institute of Sport Exercise and Health and he is an honorary Associate Professor.

He has presented at multiple conferences including organising committee for ESSKA.

He has travelled widely, and has a keen interest in many sports, managing to survive finishes in: London marathons/ London to Brighton ultra / Nice Iron Man Triathlon / Bike Etape du Tour de France.
