The start of 2016 has already got off to a fantastic start for one of the Xtreme Everest and Case Medicine team based at the ISEH.

Dr Daniel Martin has been awarded an OBE in recognition of his work at the Royal Free Hospital on their high level isolation ward where several Ebola patients were treated throughout last year.

Dan was in charge of both designing and writing the clinical protocols used on the ward, which helped ensure that the care provided was safe in a potentially hazardous setting. Working in a challenging and complex environment, he was able to demonstrate that these procedures could be undertaken whilst caring for a critically ill Ebola patient.

Dan said “It is a privilege to have been recognised in this way and I am thrilled to be receiving the award. This is a phenomenal recognition for everyone at the Royal Free Hospital. The care we deliver to patients with Ebola and other contagious diseases is a huge team effort that would not be possible without the hard work and determination of every single person who has contributed to our successes.”

Congratulations to Dan and his colleague Dr Michael Jacobs, who is a consultant in infectious diseases at the Royal Free London, who received a Knighthood for his work on Ebola.
