Professional Biography
Prof Guido Pieles is a children's and adult congenital cardiologist and leads the Sports Cardiology Clinic at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH) with expertise in inherited cardiac conditions, advanced imaging and sports and exercise cardiology.
After obtaining his medical degree at the University of Marburg/ Germany, and a DPhil at Oxford University in cardiovascular genetics he trained in children's and adult congenital cardiology/ Inherited cardiac conditions/ echocardiography at the Bristol Heart Institute and the Hospital for Sick Children Toronto.
He is an exercise expert at the European Pulmonary Vascular Disease network, member of the Association of European Paediatric and Congenital Cardiology (AEPC) Sports Cardiology working group, and acts as Paediatric liaison officer at the ESC Sports cardiology Nucleus.
He is a consulting sports cardiologist at Manchester United FC and visiting sports cardiologist at Aspetar and Aspire Academy Doha. He is the director of Cardiac Health & Performance Ltd., a sports cardiology consulting company.
His research centres on the development of innovative methods to monitor cardiac performance in elite athletes and young people with inherited heart disease. He is working as an internationally recognised sports cardiologist with special interest in Football cardiology.
